Comox Valley AHS

Who Are We?
The Comox Valley Aboriginal Head Start (CVAHS) program opened its doors to children in March of 1997. The program has flourished over the years and has grown from a basement setting to owning its own building and 2 buses, a little yellow school bus and a 15 passenger van.

We are known across the country for our strong Parent Advisory Council (PAC) who co-govern the program along with our Host Agency, the Upper Island Women of Native Ancestry. Our parents have worked hard in developing their Terms of Reference and their own Policies and Procedures, and some parents have made presentations at National and World Conferences. The PAC Executive does so much work on behalf of all the parents in the program.

We are proud to be so closely connected to the local School District, and are pleased and honoured to have a representative on their Aboriginal Education Council. Every year the CVAHS hosts a Kindergarten Transition Meeting with the graduating students, parents, Kindergarten Teachers, Administrators and Aboriginal Education personnel. At our graduation ceremony, the Aboriginal Education Administrator welcomes the children into the mainstream school system. We greatly appreciate and foster this support.

Together with our amazing staff, parents, children and Host Agency, the Comox Valley AHS will continue to grow, and to nourish the hearts of our little ones so they can be proud of who they are as Aboriginal people. It really is all about the children!
